OPTIONS’s First Annual Open House

On Wednesday, July 13th The Options Program held its first annual open house. The open house commemorated the Options participants for all their hard work and served as a thank you to referring agents and employers for their support. The OPTIONS team held the event at MetroWorks, and plan to host similar events in the years to come..

The open house featured a congratulatory presentation followed by drinks, appetizers and dessert, all made in the OPTIONS Food Service Program kitchen by Chef Wayne. The event was a huge success and the team is already looking forward to next year!

Stone Hearth Bakery Catering Highlight

The Stone Hearth Catering kitchen has been booked up and busy, busy, busy. Red Seal Chef Rob McIsaac and his team of talented chefs have worked non-stop to ensure the utmost quality for the food provided at catered events.

One notable event we had recently was at the Deloitte Maritime Convention. Stone Hearth catered the Presidents Club Meal serving a colourful charcuterie board and an extensive seafood tower. Take a look at the video below to appreciate all of their hard work:

We got a sneak peek at some of her creations and can’t wait to go down to the Ampersand Café to try them out. Be sure to try out her newest treats including gluten free peanut butter cookies, butter tart squares, “trash can” squares and cinnamon buns.

The treats will be rotating out so make sure to follow us on instagram and facebook @theampersandcafe or pay a visit to the café to see what she has baked up!

EDGE Program Highlights

Participants of the EDGE Program have been very busy recently! We’re prepping for future employment with their recent workshops and classes. Over the past two weeks, the group had a special workshop for creating LinkedIn profiles! This included writing their bios, posting their work experience and highlighting the skills they already have. The communications and marketing team also joined the group to help each participant get headshots.

Following the LinkedIn workshop, the group had an essential lesson STAR method for interviewing. STAR stands for specific situation, task, action, and result of the situation you are describing and many employers use this form of interviewing, or variations of it.

To top off their busy time so far, the participants also became first-aid certified! In the EDGE Program, Fridays are often dedicated to having fun experiences that participants might not get outside of the program. This week, the group went to the indoor arcade in Dartmouth, Playdium.

We are so proud of all the hard work they have been putting into the program and can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.
